The Year of the Try

2016THEYEAROFTRY (2)

After I wrote the post about 2016 being The Year of the Try, I really got to thinking about the concept of trying.  And I liked it.  Actually, I liked it more and more with each day.

Normally I spend the last couple of weeks of a year putting together my annual vision board. I’ve done this for years now. I like to post it on my fridge and in my bathroom so that I see it every day of the year. I didn’t do one this year. Instead, I’ve decided to focus on just one thing: TRYING.

2016 is The Year of the Try

All year, Hope and I will try. We’ll try things together, and we’ll try things separately. We’ll try fun things, challenging things, easy things, new things, old things, pretty things, less pretty things. We’ll try attachment activities, family stuff, stuff that promotes growth. I’ll even try to teach Yappy some manners (he is a lovely disaster). Hope will try some new instruments. We will just try.

I’m not focusing on the success or failure of the activities we will attempt to take on this year. Instead, I’m going to focus on the process that leads to us trying. If we try, then the try itself will represent the success. This is about continuous improvement: My improvement, Hope’s improvement, our collective improvement.

I’d like to invite everyone to join the ABM family in The Year of the Try. Will you join me? What will you try this year? Feel free to share what you will try in the comment section or by Tweet (#YearofTry @adoptiveblkmom) or via email at adoptiveblackmom@gmail.com. I’ll regularly provide updates on my Year of the Try and would love to share your “tries” too!
